Public sector Indian Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (ITDC) is planning to undertake series of steps including renovation of its properties, adding inventory and introducing special package offers to attract more occupancy.
"We are undertaking renovation of many of our hotels including Ashok Hotel, Janpath Hotel and Samrat Hotel in Delhi, Ashok Hotel in Jaipur, Ashok Hotel in Jammu and Ashok Hotel in Pondicherry.
We are also adding more rooms, a convention centre and a wellness centre at our Pondicherry property," ITDC Director (Commercial and Marketing) Rajiv Makin told PTI.
He said the company is also mulling to open one more duty free shop at Coimbatore.
"At present, we have one duty free shop at the Goa airport and we have recently been awarded the contract for another at the Coimbatore airport," Makin said.
He, however, refused to disclose the company's investment plans or the additional room inventory likely to be added.
ITDC, currently has 14 hotels spread across the country with an inventory of around 1,500 rooms.
Makin said the company has introduced special packages for both domestic and foreign tourists to increase occupancy.
