With thousands of devotees pulling the ceremonial chariot, Delhi is set to witness on Saturday a recreation of the famed Jagannath Yatra held annually at Puri.
The chariot carries the statues of festival deities Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Balaram. The International Society For Krishna Conscious-ness's (ISKCON) Delhi unit is organising the yatra, which would have the usual fanfare of devotees singing 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' as the caravan proceeds on the designated route.
Rishi Kumara Dasa of ISKCON said, "The yatra would start from Mahavir Vatika at Daryaganj at noon and travel via Netaji Subhash Marg, Asaf Ali Road, Swami Shradhanand Marg, Lahori Gate and return to the same point via Chandni Chowk by 7 pm."
Along the route of the yatra, there would be continuous prasad distribution and the place where it would terminate would be a ceremonial feast for all those who attend.
The function would have Vaikunth players (from amongst the devotees), who would perform a play based on the life of Lord Jagannath. There would also be a rock band singing Hare Rama Hare Krishna.
