The Ghaziabad Police have started investigations into the Saturday murder of 42-year-old jeweller Atul Goel who was found dead in his car in Kavi Nagar area of the district.
As part of the probe, the police are looking into his business deals, especially those with links to Meerut and Mathura.
So far, the police have found that Goel had traded nearly 14 kg of gold and around 300 kg of silver in his latest business deals.
“We are trying to trace the payment terms and the source in Meerut and Mathura from where such a huge transaction was done. We have certain suspects who could be linked to the murder,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, Raghubir Lal, told Hindustan Times.
Further, he said that Goel had received 14 calls on his cellphone and that he had answered all of them and had alerted two people regarding his kidnapping.
“From 10:27am to 11:15am on Saturday, he was driving through the city lanes, passing through two police stations and several police posts, but he did not alert the police although he was driving his own car and had attended 14 calls,” SSP said.
Goel was found dead with a bullet wound in his head inside his Wagon-R at Kavi Nagar C-block area. The bullet, fired at a close range through the left side of the window, had hit Goel in the left temple area causing his death. The victim also appeared to have fired his licenced .32 bore pistol before he died.
