Jha's family moves SC against Soren's acquittal

Shashi Nath Jha's family has moved to Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to acquit former Union Minister Shibu Soren in his murder case.

In an appeal moved before the apex court, the family of Jha, a former private secretary of Soren, submitted that the Delhi High Court had committed a grave error on August 22 by acquitting the former minister and other accused.

They alleged the accused were acquitted despite clinching evidence produced by the CBI to establish their involvement in the alleged murder that took place in 1994.

The appeal filed by the deceased's brother, Vijaynath Jha, assumes significance as the CBI, which is a prosecuting agency had so far failed to file an official appeal against the acquittal of the high-profile Jharkhand leader.

It was contended in the appeal that the High Court failed to take note of the evidence produced by the CBI in the form of various circumstantial evidence and the testimony of Jha's six-year old daughter.
