After wowing Delhi, the art and craft as well as culinary specialities of Jammu and Kashmir are set to travel to Kolkata, Indore and Goa.
"Seeing the excellent responses of the past festivals held in Delhi, we have now planned to exhibit our culture and heritage in other parts of the country as well. Such festivals contribute a lot towards promoting tourism in the state," said Aziz Wani, Managing Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation.
"By the end of this month, the Kashmir Festival will be held for four days in Kolkata and it will be followed by festivals in Indore and Goa next month," he told PTI.
With a view to attract greater number of tourists in the coming days, the tourism department has included various arts and crafts to be displayed at the festivals.
"Earlier, the festival used to focus only on Kashmiri food which is famous across the country. But now we have included handicraft, handloom, metal craft and wood craft in the festival so as to attract more visitors," said Syed Shahnawaz, spokesperson of the J&KTDC.
Apart from government institutions, private cultural organisations have also been invited to showcase their performances at such festivals.
Live cultural programmes presented by various folk artists during the ongoing Kashmir Festival in Delhi are a part of the initiative, Shahnawaz added.
