Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling him an anarchist, Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal said the BJP was running scared as it had no “positive agenda” for the elections.
“Mahatma Gandhi also called himself an anarchist. These, however, are non-issues. The BJP is scared and has no agenda and is trying to divert the public’s attention. We know how to govern and how to hold a dharna as well,” he said at a press conference a short while after the PM’s Ramlila Maidan rally.
Kejriwal was responding to Modi’s assertion that AAP should be left to holding dharnas. Claiming that it was his 49-day government that reduced power tariffs, stamped out corruption and gave Delhiites free water, the former CM said, “I will let the people of Delhi judge me on the work I have done. I have proved to them that we know how to govern.”
In a dig at Modi’s announcement of subsidised LED bulbs that would help people save Rs. 300 a year, Kejriwal said, “When we were in power we reduced power tariffs by half and they are giving them a reprieve of Rs. 300?”
A day before the rally too, AAP had put up its posters near the venue and run a Twitter campaign asking the BJP where it stood on the promises it had made to Delhi in the recent past — such as full statehood and security for women.
Calling the BJP a party of liars, Kejriwal said it was “misleading people on various issues” and had lied to the people at Ramlila Maidan too by saying it had no plans to reduce the retirement age from 60 to 58. Citing a November 26 order passed in BJP-ruled Haryana that brought down the retirement age to 58, he said, “The BJP is only waiting for the Delhi elections to conclude. After that, it will make this change in all states.”
“The Delhi BJP is without a leader and is a sinking ship. They will realize this when the results come out,” he added.
