The tables turned rather unfortunately for a student of law soon after he turned to Facebook to avenge his rejection by a former schoolmate.
Three months after he allegedly set the wheels of harassment in motion by uploading a girl’s phone number on a fictitious Facebook page replete with provocative pictures, Shubham Kansal was arrested by the crime branch.
“Kansal wanted to get close to the woman in question. However, things never worked out his way. So, in February this year, he uploaded her mobile phone number on a fictitious Facebook account inviting everybody for ‘friendship’,” said Sanjay Kumar Jain, DCP (crime).
According to the police, Kansal, who was arrested from his home in east Delhi’s Dilshad Garden around 7pm on Friday, had even “juiced-up” the Facebook account with provocative photographs.
This, police said, put her at the receiving end of several unsolicited and uncomfortable phone calls.
“Since her telephone number was given as the contact number and the Facebook account displayed the invitation of friendship to all those interested, she got utterly harassed due to these before she finally approached us in March,” said DCP Jain.
“During interrogation, Kansal, who is pursuing a degree in law from a university based in Uttar Pradesh, revealed that he and the victim had been batch mates at a school in east Delhi and that he had wanted to get back at her,” DCP Jain said.
