Both houses of Parliament were disrupted for the eighth day Thursday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) persisted with its demand for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation over coal block allocation.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day while Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2pm.
In the Rajya Sabha, the BJP members were on their feet demanding the prime minister's resignation. Chairman Hamid Ansari urged members to let the question hour proceed. Minister of State in the Prime Minister's office V. Narayanasamy said he was ready to answer but the BJP members were unrelenting, forcing the house to be adjourned.
In the Lok Sabha, BJP members raised slogans, also forcing Speaker Meira Kumar to adjourn the house till noon.
The BJP has been forcing adjournment of the house since last week over its demand for the prime minister's resignation. It has also sought cancellation of coal block allotments on the basis of the Comptroller and Auditor General's report and inquiry by a special investigative team into the allocations.
The continuing stalemate has seen the BJP and Congress going hammer and tongs at each other over the past few days.
