It was business as usual at the busy Yamuna Bank metro station on Friday 7am when loud gunshots sent commuters scurrying for cover. In what appears to be a case of love affair gone awry, a 24-year-old constable with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) — AVM Pillai, 24, gunned down his 22-year-old female colleague — NVS Teja before turning the AK-47 on to himself.
The shooting triggered a panic at Yamuna Bank, which is a major interchange station connecting Delhi with two satellites towns — Ghaziabad and Noida. The incident happened at platform number 2 where a large number of passengers de-board the train coming from Noida and Vaishali, heralding the morning peak hour rush.
Police said Pillai, who was carrying an AK-47 rifle, shot seven rounds, of which two hit Teja and three killed him. "Teja was scheduled to take a bus to go to the CISF camp in Indirapuram but she chose to wait for Pillai. Both sat near the elevator at platform number 2 for 10 minutes before Pillai shot her dead and killed himself," the officer said
Sources said Teja, who was in a relationship with Pillai, had returned from her village in Andhra Pradesh a week ago. She had reportedly told Pillai that her parents have arranged a marriage for her which might upset Pillai. "Teja's parents were not allowing her to marry Pillai, who is from Tamil Nadu. He was very upset," said a senior CISF officer, wishing to remain anonymous.
