In a miraculous feat, a team of doctors in a private hospital successfully operated upon a construction worker to remove two iron rods from his body. On Monday, 20-year-old Anil Kumar was brought to the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences in Sector 21, after he was injured in a freak accident. Two rods pierced through his body after a truck loaded with iron rods hit his motorcycle on Surajkund Road.
The iron rods of 25 to 30 mm thickness pierced through his stomach. It took around four hours for a team of doctors — Dr NK Pandey, managing director of AIMS, Dr Ved Prakash, Dr Sushant Kumar and Dr Vijay — to operate upon the patient and remove the rods that pierced through his stomach, part of small intestines, lower part of the liver and pancreas, said a hospital release issued later.
“The part of his stomach that was damaged was removed, whereas small intestines of liver were repaired,” the hospital release added. Surprisingly, the victim had called his father after the incident. “My son called me on my mobile phone, informing about the incident. I immediately rushed him to the hospital,” said Kali Charan Bansal, father of the victim.
Hailing from Chattarpur in Madhya Pradesh, the family has been residing in Faridabad for the past five years now.
