A 39-year-old man, allegedly wanted in 108 criminal cases across north India and recently labelled ‘the most wanted dacoit’ in three states, was arrested from a hideout in east Delhi, the police said.
“He has been identified as Joginder, also known as Joga. He was apprehended from his hideout in Shahdara’s Subhash Park Extension with a revolver, three laptops, and a motorcycle,” said KC Dwivedi, additional commissioner of police (east).
The police said Joginder led the dreaded Joga gang, which is said to be involved in several cases of robbery and carjacking reported from the national capital region in the last 14 years.
“Wanted in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in several cases, Joga always preferred 180cc bikes to commute, instead of luxury vehicles. He managed to give police the slip in three different raids, in three different states,” said a senior police officer from the investigating team.
“This year alone, Joginder was involved in a spate of dacoity in Anand Vihar, Preet Vihar and Yamuna Vihar in Delhi besides those in neighbouring Sahibabad, Old Faridabad, Gurgaon,” the officer said.
“We have ascertained his involvement in 33 cases, and are investigating his involvement in others. The hunt to nab his other associates is also underway,” Dwivedi said.
