You will soon be able to download your marriage, caste, domicile and income certificates, sitting in the comforts of your office or home.
Taking a step forward to make such facilities easily available, the city government has decided to create an electronic repository of such documents. Once the person applies for a certificate, he will not have to make rounds of the office concerned to get the hard copy of the certificate. The department will upload the certificate and the applicant will only have to download it and take a printout.
“These services will have to be offered in a time-bound manner and any delay on the part of the department will attract penalty,” a senior Delhi government official said.
To start with, the government will offer digital printouts of 19 such certificates, including marriage, caste, income, domicile, ration cards, registration of shops, registration with employment exchange, and application acknowledgement, roll number and results of the subordinate service selection board.
Once they are offered electronically, the government will be able to cover almost 80 per cent services.
Andhra Pradesh is the only state where some of these certificates are given to applicants electronically. If implemented properly, Delhi will become the first state to offer such large bouquet of services to its residents online.
Senior Delhi government officials said all services offered by 35 government departments will be covered under this facility in the next few years.
According to officials, a repository of digitally signed certificates will be created by different departments with the help of the IT team. “Each certificate will have a unique number and the government departments verifying the certificates will also be able to do it electronically,” an official said.
The applicants, said officials, will just have to log on to the government’s website and key in the application number to access their certificates.
