A local court on Wednesday extended the police custody of former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani and former VHP leader Jaideep Patel till April 4.
Maya and Jaideep, accused in the Naroda Patia and Naroda Gam 2002 post-Godhra riot case, were earlier remanded in four-day police custody after the Gujarat High Court cancelled their anticipatory bail.
Metropolitan Magistrate G M Patel extended their police custody after the Special Investigation Team, constituted by Supreme Court to investigate some of the post-Godhra riot cases afresh, asked for further remand.
Maya, who was the Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare and Higher Education in the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi government, had resigned and surrendered before the team after her anticipatory bail was cancelled by the High Court.
The duo has been accused of leading the irate mob, which killed more than 106 people in Naroda Patia and Naroda Gam village, after a coach of Sabarmati express carrying Kar Sevaks was burnt near Godhra railway station.
