Congress on Thursday took a dig at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati over a Rs 36-crore increase in her assets in three years, saying while her prosperity was growing, the social indices of the state were going down.
"The prosperity of the Chief Minister is increasing... At the same time, the social indices of the state is decreasing...The people of the state are getting poorer," party spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters in New Delhi.
Mayawati yesterday declared her assets at over Rs 88 crore, an increase of nearly Rs 36 crore in the past three years while submitting an affidavit during filing of her nomination papers for next month's Legislative Council polls in the state.
The BSP supremo has been the Chief Minister of UP for the last three years.
Tewari termed it as a "ridiculous situation" and said the people of the state will have to think about the issue as elections are due after two years.
The spokesman said that if an asset of a person increase due to business or work, Congress has no problem with it but if the assets increase in an "illegal manner", the central agencies should look into the matter.
