The three newly-elected mayors of Delhi have demanded a bailout package from chief minister Sheila Dikshit so that developmental work in the city can be completed without financial glitches.
Savita Gupta, Meera Aggarwal and Annapurna Mishra, mayors of South, North and East Delhi Municipal Corporation met Dikshit on Tuesday evening.
The mayors said the state government had given a massive loan to the corporations and charged a heavy interest on it, thereby putting additional burden on them.
“When the government can give bailout packages to discoms, it should give grants to corporations, instead of burdening it with loans,” said Savita Gupta, mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
The mayors also asked the CM to take steps to increase the security of women in the city.
Dikshit, in return, asked the mayors to focus on improving cleanliness, sanitation and maintenance of street lights in their respective areas.
She said the MCD was trifurcated to ensure efficiency in municipal administration and the newly-created civic bodies must strive hard to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Dikshit also asked the mayors to rise above the blame game and work hand in hand with the government.
