Now, public representatives need a monetary incentive to enable them to carry out duties in an efficient manner.
With the issue of salary hike cutting across political lines, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) councillors discussed this matter at a Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday. Municipal councillors are now demanding fixed salaries and an increase in their allowance. But they seem to be undecided over what their salary should be — demands range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000.
The issue was raised by MCD Leader of Opposition, Jai Kishan Sharma.MPs and MLAs are getting salary hike but councillors do not have a fixed salary. This is despite the fact that people approach us first whenever they face any problem," he said.
