Ahead of the civic elections in 2012, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to release an additional R50 lakh as allocation for municipal councillors’ fund to help them carry out developmental works in their respective areas.
This additional R50 lakh has now taken the total amount to R1 crore, which the councillors can spend on developmental works in their wards.
The civic body had already released R50 lakh each for all the 272 councillors.
A total of R136 crore has been released for this purpose. The allocation for councillors’ funds should be increased and councillors should get a fixed salary, chairpersons of various ward committees had demanded on Wednesday.
“A number of councillors had been demanding this for quite some time. They had said that R50 lakh was too meagre an amount to carry out repair and developmental works in their areas. A circular has been issued in this regard,” said Jagdish Mamgain, chairman of works committee of the MCD.
