The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), blamed by citizens for much of the capital's woes, is unable even to protect its own house from the elements. A portion of MCD's three month old Civic Centre was flooded on Tuesday with only a few spells of rain.
The 28 storey building, the city's tallest and a showpiece structure, saw its ground floor submerged in water.
During an inspection trip with media and Congress councillors, MCD's Leader of Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma said: The building is built at a cost of Rs.650 crore and it is known as an 'engineering marvel'. But just a few hours of rain and the whole basement and ground floor got flooded.
“This is a serious issue and requires a thorough probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Also, the payment to the Malaysian contractor who was engaged in the construction project should be stopped,” he said.
The Civic Centre was inaugurated by Home Minister P Chidambaram April 22.
