The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to speed up the process of desealing properties in the Capital.
The decision came after the civic body received several complaints from owners whose properties had been sealed for misuse last year and have been lying locked since then.
According to officials, the civic agency has also decided to make the desealing process time-bound. It is, however, yet to fix a deadline for the same.
“We are going to take up this issue with the Supreme Court appointed monitoring committee to find out why such properties are not being desealed in a time bound manner. If we don’t get a satisfactory reply, then we will file an affidavit,” said Subhash Arya, leader of the MCD House.
The Urban Development Ministry had notified over 37 amendments to the Master Plan-2021 last year, giving relief to unauthorised colonies, small shop owners, coaching centres, NGOs, hotels preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2010 and properties facing the threat of demolition.
Instead of the earlier norm of having one small shop per dwelling unit, the amendment has allowed up to four units to operate from the ground floor.
