Male passengers caught travelling in the coaches reserved for female passengers in Metro trains will now be fined a sum of R200 from Monday onwards.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporations will deploy mobile checking squads to ensure proper compliance and random checking in this regard.
“Every mobile squad will consist of four to five persons, including security personnel. So far, mobile squads have penalised 8,195 passengers for various offences like defacing Metro property, drunkenness, creating nuisance and spitting in the past two years. We have collected nearly R16.41 lakh in fine,” said Anuj Dayal, chief public relations officer, DMRC.
The Delhi Metro had decided to reserve the first coach of every train for female passengers on an experimental basis as about a quarter of the total passengers travelling on the Metro consist of them. Children up to 12 years accompanied by female passengers are also allowed to travel in the reserved coach.
