How much time does it take to travel from Central Secretariat to Huda City Centre by the metro?
Officially, it is 45 minutes but thanks to the technical glitches that the Delhi Metro is suffering these days, it could actually take two hours or even more these days.
The worst bit of news is that lakhs of commuters will have to live with this perennial problem, at least till the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) finds a solution.
After facing several major service disruptions on the line that was started a few months ago, Delhi Metro hasn't been able to come up with a solution to this problem.
Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said: "These are technical problems and such glitches take place everywhere in metro networks across the world. At best we can try and reduce commuters' inconvenience that occur due to such snags."
In the last 10 days, services on the busy Gurgaon line have been disrupted twice during evening hours due to a problem in the over-head electrification (OHE), leaving passengers stranded at various stations.
Sometimes repeated tripping of OHE system caused service disruption, while at times the pentograph (device on the roof of a Metro train through which it draws power from the OHE line) failed to provide electricity to trains.
On Sunday evening, potential transformer (transformer that measures voltage) broke down following sparks in the OHE system. Metro service on Line 2 was disrupted for nearing one and half hours due to this. Delhi Metro officials termed it "a minor fault".
"Frequent glitches are nothing but coincidences. Supplier of products, contractors and technical experts are working together to find out a solution," said Satish Kumar, director (electrical), DMRC.
However, Vikas Kumar, general manager (Operations), said: "There must be some defective components in the OHE system. Also the neutral sections are misbehaving quite often."
There are five neutral sections where power supply switches from one source to another on Line 2.
