Delhiites experienced the coldest day of the season as the mercury plunged below five degrees Celsius. The condition is likely to persist over the next few days.
While the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.7 degree Celsius, four degrees below normal, the maximum stood at 21.7 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year and down from Thursday's 22.2 degrees.
The mercury has shown a downward trend in the past few days, with both the maximum and minimum temperatures dropping progressively. The Met department has predicted similar conditions for the next couple of days. “For the next two days, shallow fog shall cover the city’s sky during the morning. The mercury is likely to be between five and 22 degrees Celsius,” said an official at the Met department.
People found the sudden dip in temperature, hard to cope with. "The temperature has suddenly dropped. I usually travel to work by an auto, but I feel I will have to use an alternate mode of transport," said Riti Bansal, who travels from GK to Green Park everyday.
“I had not expected the winters to be this harsh,” said Samyukta Deb of CR Park.
