Six students, including two from Delhi University, have been arrested for abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl from south Delhi's Andrews Ganj.
Police said the girl knew one of the accused, Rajesh, who is a second year student of DU.
Police said the other five accused - Anil, Sidhartha, Tilak, Prateek and Pinku - include another DU student besides students of some private institutes.
"On April 22, Rajesh had contacted the girl and took her to Vivekanand Park in Andrews Ganj and later to Sangam Vihar. All the other accused were waiting there," said a senior officer of Delhi police.
Her father, who lives in the servant quarter at a government officer's flat, had lodged a complaint of kidnapping at the local police station on Monday.
"After raping her at Sangam Vihar, they dropped the girl in front of her house on Tuesday but out of fear she went to one of her friend's house in Kotla Mubarakpur instead," the officer added.
Police said the girl was scared and didn't want to face her family. A police team was searching for her after her father's complaint; they managed to locate her on Wednesday. The girl's medical examination confirmed rape.
"We had some clue that she was last seen with Rajesh, so we picked him. He broke down during interrogation and confessed to the crime following which the other accused were also arrested," the officer added.
The capital has witnessed a sharp rise in the number of rape and molestation incidents with around 80 rape cases reported this year so far. In 2010, the city witnessed 489 rape incidents, including the infamous Dhaula Kuan rape and Mongolpuri, as against 2009's 459.
