A jump in the Delhi University cut-off list is on the cards. The Class 12 Board results that were declared on Monday revealed an increase in the number of students, who scored above 90%.
The number of students who will be given merit certificates, which are given to those who secure marks above a set cut-off — usually between 96 and 100 marks — has also gone up by 1000. While last year this number was around 7,200, this year it is 8,200.
According to university experts, the number of students who have scored above 90% and the number of merit certificates directly impacts the cut-offs in the university.
"The most important factor while setting the cut-offs for sought-after colleges is the number of students who have scored above 95% marks. The higher this number, the more likely is that the cut-offs will go up. Every college keeps its eyes on this figure while deciding the cut-off," said a senior Delhi University official.
The cut-off marks in humanities will see a hike as a number of students have scored above 95 marks in humanities subjects. Close to 100 students have scored a perfect 100 in Psychology and the English marks have seen a phenomenal improvement.
The cut-off in commerce subjects may also see a slight rise as a number of students have done well in Business Studies and Economics, but the performance is Mathematics has dipped massively.
Science is the only area where cut-offs may see a dip as the results in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics have not been as good as last year. But this may be seen only in off-campus colleges.
Meanwhile, in what has become the norm all over the country now, girls outperformed boys yet again. While girls posted an overall pass percentage of 86.21%, that of boys was recorded at 75.80% — a whooping difference of 10.41%.
