An indication of what the peak of summers may have in store for Delhiites this year was felt on Monday as the city experienced its warmest March 19 in the past five years.
The Met department recorded the maximum temperature as 37 degrees Celsius, 7 degrees above normal while the minimum was recorded as 19.4 degrees Celsius, 3 degrees above normal.
While Tuesday is expected to be as warm, Wednesday and Thursday will be cooler, according to a senior Met official. The temperature on Tuesday is expected to be between 37 degrees and 20 degrees Celsius.
The temperature in the city has shot up all of a sudden over the past three days when the maximum was recorded in the mid 30s. Last week’s maximum temperatures were in the late 20s or early 30s.
“A western disturbance has resulted in the sudden increase in temperature. It will pass by Wednesday and the temperatures will come down by 3-4 degrees,” the Met official added.
Only on March 19, 2008, was the maximum recorded as 37 degrees, the same as Monday.
