Monster buses continue mayhem on the roads

Twenty-three-year-old Umesh Sharma came under the rear wheels of a Blueline bus when he fell from the door on Saturday night. Sharma had just boarded the bus at the Nangloi bus stop when the driver reportedly applied the brakes all of a sudden, a police officer said. The driver managed to drive away and flee from the spot, the officer added.
A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered at the Nangloi police station. The bus was plying on route-918 between Dev Nagar to Nangloi.
“Umesh has been admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where his condition is still stated to be critical,” said a senior police officer.
In the second incident, three men were injured in Northwest Delhi on Saturday night when a Blueline bus collided with their motorcycle head-on in Narela area. The bus was plying on route 131 (from Narela to Old Delhi Railway station).
The injured Dhanpat (26), Gulab (24) and Ved Prakash (26), residents of Safiabad in Sonepat, were rushed to Raja Harishchandra Hospital and were later on shifted to LNJP hospital. The police said Satpal, the driver of the bus, has been arrested and the bus impounded.
The state-run DTC buses were not far behind Blueline buses in terms of accidents. On Sunday, a DTC bus killed a person in the Paschim Vihar area of West Delhi. The incident took place at 8:45 in the morning near Super Bazaar.
The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Sandeep Yadav, a resident of Madipur village. Sandeep was riding his motorcycle when a DTC bus on route 569 (plying between Safdarjung and Sultanpuri) hit him from behind. He was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The driver of the bus, Ajit Singh, has been arrested.
“Eyewitness said an autorickshaw hit Sandeep’s motorcycle first and when he fell, he was crushed by the bus. We are looking for the auto driver too” said a senior police officer. Sandeep used to work as a technician in ESI hospital.
In another accident, a 41-year-old man lost his life on Sunday after a Santro car hit him in the Sultanpuri area. The deceased, Arjun Singh, was an employee of the Delhi Jal Board. The driver of the car managed to escape, but his vehicle has been impounded.
