Twelve hours after he stormed the South Delhi house of a girl and killed her, the 28-year-old man was arrested from adjacent Uttar Pradesh, the police claimed on Saturday.
Subhash, a contractual maintenance worker, claimed he had been romantically involved with 18-year-old Sakshi for two years. He claimed he killed the standard 12 student because she had begun ignoring him due to his poor academic background, said BS Jaiswal, DCP (south).
“Detailed interrogation revealed that Subhash had met Sakshi, who happened to be his distant relative, at a wedding ceremony where they struck a friendship,” said DCP Jaiswal.
“Later, however, Sakshi started shunning him since she was more educated than him. This triggered the idea of seeking revenge in his mind.” Nabbed from Ghitoli village in UP’s Baghpat district last night, Subhash, a cousin of Sakshi’s sister-in-law, told the police that he had reached her house at Munirka near Vasant Vihar around 10am on Saturday where he shot Sakshi. She had written her class 12 exams this year.
A pistol believed to be used in the murder, blood-stained clothes and a mobile phone were recovered from Subhash’s possession, police said.
