With several chief ministers and opposition parties against the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in its present form, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday reiterated that nothing would be done to infringe upon the federal structure of the Indian constitution.
"Nothing will be done that will infringe upon the federal structure of the constitution," Manmohan Singh told the Rajya Sabha in reply to a debate on motion of thanks to President Pratibha Patil's address to the two houses of parliament.
He had made the same point in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
"I think the idea of NCTC and the manner in which it will function are two separate issues. There may be differences on the functioning of NCTC. But I am confident these can be narrowed down through consultations and discussions," he said, referring to the meeting of chief ministers on security to be held on April 16.
