The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will declare by Wednesday the revised entrance examination date for its super specialty courses. The entrance test was disrupted on Sunday due to server crash at one of the two designated centres in the national capital region.
Of about 1,800 applicants appearing for 44 coveted seats in 19 super-specialty programmes — Master of Chirurgical (MCh) and Doctorate of Medicine (DM) — about 400 doctors, who had their centre at a private university in Faridabad, Haryana, were not able to take the exam.
A minor fire at the centre resulted in the server glitch.
“The new date should be out in a day or two,” said Dr YK Gupta, spokesperson, AIIMS.
Owing to various entrance examinations lined up from other medical colleges across the country, the doctors are faced with a very tight schedule in coming weeks.
“We have a stream of entrances slated for the coming days. How will they ensure there is no clashing of dates?” said a candidate who could not take the exam.
“We will come up with a date only after considering the entire examination schedule. We will ensure there is no inconvenience to candidates,” said Dr Gupta.
Out of the 19 courses, exams will be rescheduled for four courses — urology, neurosurgery, paediatric surgery and cardiology — in which doctors faced problem. The result for rest will be declared as scheduled on May 18.
The rescheduled exam is most likely to be a written one, as the number is very small.
It was AIIMS’ first attempt to go online with their entrance examination system.
