A 24-year-old woman, who got married on November 18, allegedly ran away with her lover, 22, during her honeymoon, police officials said.
Police officials said the woman and her husband had gone to Jammu for their honeymoon two days after their marriage. The woman fled with cash and jewellery from the hotel they were staying in.
"A complaint was also forwarded by her husband at Katra police station into the incident. The woman worked at a computer training institute and her alleged lover was her student there," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said. The woman's father lodged a complaint with Lal on December 13, alleging that the student, Naveen Kumar (name changed), had forcibly married his daughter. The man, who also works at a BPO in Noida, had called him up to inform him about the incident.
In their complaint, the family alleged that their daughter was in captivity and was facing a threat to her life. Both the man and the woman are absconding, the police said.
"It seems she was not happy with the marriage and ran away with her student," a senior police official said.
When contacted, the woman's family members requested her name not be published. "We know that they had an affair. We just want them to come clean before the family members," a member of the woman's family said, requesting anonymity.
