Model Town is indeed model in many ways. It has sprawling houses, lies near to shopping destinations and greenery all around. But parking woes continue to plague the residents of this locality.
“There is no space for us to park our cars. The roads are so narrow that it is impossible to move the car out of the colony during mornings. We have taken up the matter with the councillor, but he did nothing about it,” said Pradeep Sharma, president, Residents Welfare Association (RWA), Model Town I.Located in northwest Delhi, Model Town came into being in 1980s. It is divided in to three parts — I, II and III and is surrounded by areas such as Adarsh Nagar, Azadpur and Delhi University’s North Campus. It is flanked by Derawal Nagar, Gujranwala Town, and Mahindra Enclave.
Residents also complain about the large number of strays dogs and cows in the area. “Dog menace is a big problem despite numerous complaints to the councillor,” said SC Jain, president of Amba Cooperative Group Housing Societies, Model Town III.
Broken roads, potholes and choked drains are also bothering the residents. “Several roads are broken at various places. They have huge potholes, where water often stagnates, especially during rain and takes days to clear. The situation is equally bad in Gujranwala Town,” said Jaspal Singh, one of the residents of Model Town II.Neighbouring localities such as Gujranwala Town and Derawal suffer from sanitation problems. "Roads in our area are never cleaned. Sanitation workers don’t even dedicate half-an-hour to sweeping the roads. We have been requesting the councillor to deploy more sanitation workers in our area but to no avail," said Suresh Gupta, president, Derawal Residents Welfare Societies, Model Town. Councillor Speak
