Classes have begun across all colleges and courses in Delhi University. But some students of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD) are still awaiting their time-table.
Students of BA (honours) Political Science and Hindi in the college have been told that a temporary time-table will be put up soon, following which classes will commence from Monday.
"No time-table has been put up as yet. We have been told to wait till Saturday since there are some 'technical problems' that need to be ironed out," said a first-year student of Political Science, on the condition of anonymity.
The college has been offering contradictory statements while trying to explain the delay in putting up time-tables for the courses.
"These courses have been delayed, but only slightly, because of the introduction of the semester system. In addition to that, the courses need to be coordinated with other subjects in deciding the lecture rooms. So the schedule will be ready by Monday," said Gulshan Sawhney, deputy dean of Students' Welfare (DU), who is also a professor in ARSD.
Other explanations for the delay put the blame on teachers.
"Some of the teachers have gone on leave. Since the semester has just begun, they are now returning. So, there has been a short delay in drafting the time-table for these courses," said Sandeep Sharma, Acting Principal, ARSD College.
DU vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh who visited several colleges on Thursday, has however, reacted sharply to this delay.
"This is no excuse. There should not be a single day's delay, especially under the semester system since there is much more to be done in a shorter span of time. The college is saying that it will start classes on Monday. It is wasting a precious week," said Dinesh Singh, after several students of ARSD raised the matter with him.
