"Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi", the Facebook page of Noida traffic police, is finally chugging along. Policemen have gone a step further from responding to complaints and suggestions on the popular social networking site to actually taking concrete actions on the ground.
Within a week of its inception, more than 220 people have “liked” the page. More than 300 complaints and suggestions have also poured in. Superintendent of police (traffic) AK Vijeta now has decided to do review the page weekly. He has ordered policemen to compile people's outpours in a manner which will help during initiating measures to set right traffic issues.
So far, traffic inspector Saifuddin Beg has been responding to people's posts.
Small issues are being taken care of online itself. Shobhit Jain wrote: "At the Flex crossing in sector 61, the traffic lights do not work and accidents happen almost everyday. Not enough policemen are there." The response was: "More traffic policemen have been deputed for the crossing and the company concerned has been told to repair the lights."
Some of the appeals being made to the people by the police are: "Many people insist rickshaw pullers to ride on the wrong side instead of crossing the road and taking a rickshaw. Don't put lives in danger."
Another one was: "Minors don't have required reflexes; so please don't let them drive."
