Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan films, Old Delhi’s chaats, and “Sale” shopping at malls — these are some of the things the Games organisers have lined up to make sure that wives of the foreign delegates arriving for the Common-wealth Games are not bored in Delhi while their husbands are busy at the venues with their teams.
So as the delegates start arriving in the Capital the Organising Committee, apart from finishing various essential jobs in a last-minute rush, is also busy finding out ways for the “time-pass” of the group of ladies from 71 countries.
“We have booked a PVR theatre in Saket. We are lining up a list of movies for the special, daily screening of these ladies. The request has been for movies like Jodha Akbar and Shahrukh Khan movies,” said Aslam Khan, Joint Director General of Protocol at the OC. “It’s a special slot reserved for our screenings. The movies must have subtitles.”
The OC has drawn up a list of ladies-only team of volunteers and liaison officers to see to it that the wives live it up in Delhi. The number of wives of the delegates is estimated to be around 100.
The evenings are taken care of by a lineup of dinner invitations from the OC brass and some of the Delhi’s who’s who, including Sahara’s Subrata Roy.
So the brief is to keep the ladies occupied till evening.
Apart from the staple monument-hopping as part of the heritage tour, Khan Market and the glitzy malls, especially the ones in Vasant Kunj are high on the list.
Officials are busy finding out discount shopping opportunities that may be available at malls and markets. “We are sure we will be able to find some discount shopping opportunities for them. Shopping is a major activity,” he said.
For a spiritual experience, the Akshardham temple will be one of the spots, while for a more ethnic Indian encounter, it is the good-old Dilli Haat.
Form Metro ride to even scheduled auto trips, the exotic Delhi experience, a few stones will be left unturned for the ladies.
For a quintessential Delhi experience, the bylanes Old Delhi will serve their gastronomical fare—some of the famous chaatwallas are being spoken to.
The Taj Mahal trip is planned as the special train will operate between Safdarjung station and Agra every day.
