Faced with some of its members being dragged into controversies, Team Anna on Sunday said it will appoint an ombudsman to probe allegations against its members and will allow the citizens to file complaints against team members.
Key Team Anna member and Supreme Court lawyer, Prashant Bhushan, has been entrusted with the task of approaching retired judges and seeking their consent to be a part of the panel, likely to be set-up within a fortnight.
“This was decided by Anna Hazare himself. We will be setting it up (ombudsman) within a fortnight. I will be talking to retired judges,” Bhushan said.
It will go into allegations levelled against team members like Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal and others.
The decision to conduct a probe by retired judges was taken at a meeting attended by Hazare, Bhushan, Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and others at Ralegan Siddhi on October 30.
Bedi fell into controversy after it emerged that she had overcharged her hosts by inflating travel bills, and Kejriwal was accused of diverting donations during Hazare’s fast in August, to a trust run by him.
Hazare, however, has defended both his colleagues saying it was decided earlier that donations will be deposited in the account of the trust. As controversies rocked his team, Hazare also decided to write a constitution for the anti-corruption movement led by him.
