A 25-year-old worker was killed while another sustained injuries after they came in contact with a high-tension electric wire in Tughlaqabad Extension in south Delhi on Monday afternoon.
According to police, the incident took place around 2.40pm when the victims were installing a flex hoarding on the third floor of a building.
Police sources said some illegal construction was going on in the building and its owner was installing the hoarding to hide the same. The deceased has been identified as Mukesh Patel, a native of Faridabad.
Police have registered a case under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) at Govindpuri police station.
“We are looking into the matter. The owner of the building is likely to be booked in the case,” a senior police officer said, adding that around five months ago, they had already complained to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi about the illegal construction in the area.
According to the senior police officer, Patel, along two-three co-workers — including the injured worker, Vicky (32) — were installing a flex hoarding at the front of the building when the incident took place.
“During installation, the hoarding swung in the air and its iron rods touched a high-tension electric wire passing close to the building. The victims got electrocuted and fell from the building. They were rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital where Patel was declared brought dead. Vicky is recuperating,” the officer added.
