For those who want to relive the excitement of the eye-catching Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, the Organising Committee has a plan.
The recording of the three-hour-long ceremony might be available on a special DVD after the Games. The collector's item will also have recording of the closing ceremony, to be held on October 14 and highlights from different sporting events.
"The opening ceremony has been appreciated from all quarters and there have been requests for recording of the ceremony. There are plans to bring out a special edition DVD of the recording," said a senior OC official who didn't wish to be named. "It will be a complete package with both the opening and closing ceremonies."
“The recording was done by Doordarshan and they also hold the rights to the footage. The modalities of how the DVD will be brought is yet to be worked out,” he said. Lalit Bhanot, Secretary General of the OC, said the exact plan will be worked out in some time.
For those who missed out on watching the ceremony, this will be the only chance to catch up on the action. “I was down with fever during the ceremony and with all my friends raving about it, I’m itching to see it myself,” said Gautam Mukherjee, a government employee. “There are no re-runs of the event on TV and the whole event is not available on the Internet. I would love to buy a recording of the event if it’s available.”
Small clips of the ceremony, available on the video streaming website Youtube, have already received nearly 20 lakh hits in the past four days.
