There have been several complaints from the residents that garbage dumped at dhalaos keeps lying there for days. Why aren’t the dhalaos cleaned regularly?
I am not aware of any such problem. No one has ever complained to me about the issue. But now I will give directions to the sanitation department and make sure that they get the dhalaos cleaned on a regular basis.
What about a monitoring mechanism to keep tabs on the sanitary
There are reports of sanitary workers not coming to work.We are planning to introduce the biometric attendance system for all the sanitary workers to keep a check on their attendance. Right now, workers simply mark their attendance and leave. Once the biometric system is in place, it will ensure that all field workers report on time.
Unclean drains are yet another problem in the area and need immediate attention. How will you solve the problem?
We clean the drains in our area regularly and this time too we have met our targets. It is the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Irrigation and Flood Department who do not do their work on time and we are blamed for their inadequacies. PWD should hand over the drains to us for cleaning. I am sure we will do a better job.
How are you planning to make garbage collection a smoother exercise? Also, is there a plan to introduce mechanical sweepers in colonies?
We are looking into the possibility of introducing a door-to-door scheme wherein garbage is picked up by our staff after segregation. They will then directly dump the garbage into the sanitary landfill sites rather than pile them up at the dhalaos. However, the plan is in a nascent stage and it will take sometime before it is implemented. We are also planning to procure the mechanical sweepers soon.
