Delhi Assembly will bring a resolution in the House to request the MCD to utilise money given to it for various works.
Accepting that most of roads in rural and outer Delhi maintained by the MCD are in poor condition, chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said she has got several complaints from the MLAs of these areas saying that the funds given to the MCD are often diverted.
"The urban development department had given them money but it was never utilised. The development boards sanction money for roads and the money is never spent.Let us bring a resolution that the MCD spends money given to them," Dikshit said.
MLAs from outer Delhi areas — Surender Kumar (Bawana), Bijender Singh (Nangloi), Devender Yadav (Badli), Sumesh Shaukeen (Matiala), Nand Kishore (Vikaspuri) and Bharat Singh (Najafgarh) — pointed out that most arterial roads in their areas were badly broken and often lead to accidents and traffic jams.
Bawana MLA Surender Kumar said, "The MCD says it does not have money. The fund given to them under the MLA fund and the rural development fund is never utilised for improvement of roads. DTC does not ply buses in our area because roads are not conducive. The Delhi government must intervene."
While the CM has proposed to move a resolution in the House, the urban development department has already initiated the process to take over the MCD roads.
