Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials, who later inspected the plane, called it a miraculous escape as the plane got damaged "completely".

"At 11:30 am, private aircraft VT-UPN (Beechcraft Premier 1A) belonging to Uttar Pradesh government was damaged upon landing on runway 27 of Delhi airport. Emergency services at the airport swung into action and there was no fire or casualties of any kind in the incident," said a spokesperson for Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).

Initial investigation revealed that the plane's landing gear had developed a snag and couldn't open properly. "As soon as the plane landed, the landing gear broke off and soon the rear wheels came out, forcing the plane to travel on its nose wheel," a DGCA official said.

"The plane had a cockpit crew of two and was carrying three passengers and one cabin crew who are all unharmed," he added. Soon after the crash-landing Quick Reaction Team (QRT) rushed and evacuated the passengers that include Shivpal Yadav, his OSD (officer on special duty) Dharmendra Singh and an MLA Rajan Chaudhry apart from three crew members.

All of them were taken to Medanta Medicenter at the airport as a precautionary measure and were discharged soon. Sources said that Yadav was scheduled to distribute cheques to the families of the six people who were killed during the riots in Masuri, Ghaziabad, last week.

"There was some mechanic failure and the plane couldn't land properly. Luckily, everyone on board escaped unhurt," Yadav said.

Operations on runway 27 were stopped for the next few hours but overall operations were not affected. "DIAL's emergency services ensured services resumed at the earliest. Due to three operational runways, operations at IGIA remained completely unaffected," DIAL spokesperson added.
