With the arrest of three persons, the Delhi Police claim to have solved the murder of a constable who was found killed near Adarsh Nagar Metro station in northwest Delhi last week.
The police said the motive behind the murder was robbery and the three accused were habitual offenders.
The constable, identified as Harkesh Meena, was stabbed when he resisted the robbery attempt. Meena, who had joined Delhi Police in 2010, was posted at the Narela police station a day before the incident.
"A day after the incident, the police team managed to trace an eyewitness to the scuffle between the accused and the victim. The man had been passing through the area on his bike when the incident happened," Meenu Choudhary, DCP (northwest), said.
The accused have been identified as Rudra Mani (22), Sunil (26) and Rohit Kumar (22). Rudra Mani in his interrogation told the police that he needed to send that money to his native place for his brother's marriage next month. The gang did not know that Meena was a constable as he was not in his uniform. When they saw his I-card, they immediately fled away with R4,600 which he had been carrying.
"On the day of the incident, some of the informers had seen blood on Mani's clothes. The eyewitness had informed the police that the assailants were three in number. Rudra Mani was the first to be nabbed," a senior police officer said.
On his instance, Sunil was arrested from his house in Bhalaswa while he was trying to flee along with his family while Rohit was apprehended from Samaipur Badli bus stand where he was waiting for Rudra Mani.
This gang of three was active in the area near New Subzi Mandi Metro Station, Mahendra Park and Jahangirpuri. Most cases here remained unreported as a number of victims were newcomers in the area.
