Estranged from his wife owing to suspicion of having cheated on him two years ago, Inspector Badrish Dutt seemingly found himself on the same crossroad two years later. This time, he felt let down at the alleged involvement of his lover in a cheating case.
While his prowess at technical surveillance had brought him face to face with the first alleged betrayal, this time, it was his job as a police officer.
“The last two years were like an emotional roller-coaster for him,” said an officer.
“His failing marriage had brought him closer to Geeta. When she was jailed, however, the fact that he was a police officer was a big hurdle in mending what was left of their relationship.”
Dutt, who used to drive his own official vehicle in the interest of his privacy, found himself embroiled in a vicious cycle of mistrust at the hands of his own force.
With his status and reputation as a technical whiz preceding him, Dutt, sources claimed, was questioned about his involvement in having abetted Geeta’s alleged crime.
“He was summoned by the crime branch with some of those investigating the case expressing a suspicion that he helped Geeta by compromising his duties as a police officer and using resources meant only for official police work,” the officer claimed.
Dutt was only let off the hook after his call detail records were weaned and did not indicate anything incriminating, sources said.“This had added to a lot of stress that he must have been under,” the officer added.
Father of two daughters, Dutt hailed from Kotdwar in Uttarakhand.
A high-profile officer, Dutt was part of the elite special cell. He helped the Delhi police crack a number of sensitive cases in the past, including busting counterfeit currency rackets.
His surveillance skills were particularly helpful in nailing down narcotics agents.
