East Delhi residents are in for major power cuts in the coming few days with the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) threatening to regulate 220 MW power to BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL).
According to sources, BYPL has received a regulation notice from DVC for an alleged non-payment of R311 crore and they will start regulating power after seven days.
"BYPL owes them Rs. 244 crore and not Rs. 311 crore as is being claimed. Also, we have been asking DVC to give us a break-up of the power costs at which they are procuring coal. But they have not done so far, which is in violation of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC)," said a senior BSES official.
Sources said there are four plants that supply power to BYPl - Chanderpura 7 and 8 and Nejia 6 and 7. "As far as Nejia is concerned, the tariff has not been approved by CERC and is still provisional. We have asked DVC a number of times to get the new rates approved but they haven't. It is chiefly because of this that BYPL has not been making payments," added the official.
Areas in east Delhi likely to be affected by power cuts includes Mayur Vihar, Karkardooma, Laxmi Nagar, Pandav Nagar, New Ashok Nagar among others.
