Many parts of west Delhi remained without power for about four hours on Monday. Thousands of residents suffered long power cuts due to a major technical fault at the 220KV power sub-station at Najafgarh.
According to officials, there was no power supply in Najafgarh and adjoining areas between 3pm and 7pm. Some badly-affected areas include Najafgarh, Mundka, Janakpuri, Tagore Garden and Tilak Nagar, said officials.
The Najafgarh power station supplies power to many west Delhi areas, said Delhi Transco officials. "There was fault in the capacity bank of the power sub-station, which affected power supply in some west Delhi areas. In some places, we made rotational load shedding. The problem was sorted out within a few hours," said Rishi Raj, spokesperson, Delhi Transco Ltd.
Due to power failure at the Nangloi Water Treatment Plant, there was no water supply in many areas in the evening, said Delhi Jal Board officials.
Sandhya Seth of Najafgarh said: "We kept enquiring about the reason for the disruption (in power supply) through BSES's helpline number. But we did not get satisfactory information."
Meanwhile, Delhi Transco officials said some areas in east Delhi's Patparganj could see power cuts on Tuesday, as maintenance works are due at the 220KV Patparganj power sub-station.
"The maintenance work will continue for two hours - from 6am and 8 am. Hopefully, there won't be power cuts in most areas, as we have made alternative arrangements to supply power. But some places - including Guru Angadnagar, Preet Vihar, Kakarduma and CBD Shahdara - may get affected," said Raj.
