President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were among a host of dignitories at a reception organised by CBI on Sunday to mark its foundation day with the event also being attended by Army Chief Gen VK Singh.
The high-tea at the residence of CBI Director AP Singh was attended among others by Vice President Hamid Ansari, defence minister AK Antony, home minister P Chidambaram, corporate affairs minister Veerappa Moily, DoPT minister V Narayanaswamy besides BJP leader Arun Jaitley. National Security Advisor Shiv Shanker Menon was also present.
Gen Singh, dressed in civil clothes, remained away from the VVIP enclosure and was seen engaged in small talk with some officials.
Jaitley, who was initially away from the VIP enclosure, was escorted to this enclosure by Narayanswamy, who also brought in the ministers. The assembled CBI officers also had a photo session with the President.
April one is observed as CBI's foundation day since it was on this day in 1963 that D P Kohli was appointed as the first director of the country's premier investigating agency.
