The RSS on Tuesday dubbed the investigation into the Ajmer blasts a political conspiracy to malign the organisation, days after senior leader Indresh Kumar was named in the chargesheet.
This is a break with the Sangh’s position that if any individuals were suspected to be involved in terror activities, the organisation — being “law-abiding” — would cooperate with the probe. This had come on the heels of an earlier line that Hindus could not be terrorists.
The move is also being read as the Sangh’s attempt to be seen as standing with its charged activists at a time when there were speculations it had left them — including Kumar — to fend for themselves.
“The chargesheet filed by the ATS a few days ago in the Ajmer blasts case and the subsequent statements galore by the investigators as well as the politicians completely belie our expectations about an impartial investigation,” RSS Sarkaryavaha Suresh (Bhaiyyaji) Joshi said.
“The way the name of the RSS has been dragged in with scant respect for the facts and the way senior RSS functionary Sri Indresh Kumar’s name has been invoked without any substantiating evidence makes clear that the investigation is no longer an honest one.”
Joshi admitted this was a break with the Sangh’s former line. “I had stated the RSS does neither believe in nor support any form of violence. I announced our cooperation to the investigating agencies and called upon them to conduct a thorough and honest investigation.”
He added that Sangh activists had cooperated with the investigations despite “humiliations and in several instances physical and mental torture at the hands of the overzealous investigators”.
“We are now convinced that contrary to our expectations and hopes the investigations into the bomb blast cases at Ajmer and Hyderabad are turning political and vindictive and there are clear signs of a sinister design to defame the RSS... We can’t be cowed down by unscrupulous and sinister politicalconspiracies,” he said.
Joshi said the RSS will use all fora — including courts — to challenge the “malafide intentions of the investigators and their political masters”.
