Parachuting into presidential election debate, Team Anna on Sunday asked the government to investigate its charges of corruption against UPA’s presidential poll candidate Pranab Mukherjee.

Demanding an inquiry Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal today said Pranab Mukherjee was a candidate for the highest constitutional post and the person adorning the top offie must be "above board".

Mukherjee was among the 14 Central ministries against whom Team Anna had leveled allegations of corruption. However, the government including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had rejected the claim and demand for an inquiry.

Minutes after Kejriwal’s claim, another Team Anna member Manish Sisodia said the allegations against Mukherjee were serious and should be investigated. “The UPA should not nominate him for the presidential polls till his name is cleared,” he said.

Team Anna had already announced a campaign against corruption from July 23.
