Facing flak for inordinate delay in several key projects linked to Commonwealth Games, PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan on Wednesday told officials of his department to put all-out efforts to ensure completion of works within the final deadline of August 31.
Chauhan, who has been under attack for his department's tardy preparation for the Games, visited various project sites in East Delhi to take stock of progress of work.
The Minister told concerned officials to complete the works as soon as possible without compromising with the quality of work.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit last week had set August 31 as final deadline for completing all the works related to the sporting event.
PWD has been under pressure to complete the Barapullah Nallah elevated road project as Dikshit last week had directed the implementing agency to complete it as soon as possible.
The elevated road between Sarai Kale Khan and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue of the event, is being built to provide uninterrupted traffic flow from Games Village near Akshardham temple to the stadium.
The four-km road is being constructed at a total cost of Rs 499 crore which will become an easy link between east Delhi and south and central Delhi after the Commonwealth Games. The all important project has already missed several deadlines.
Chauhan today inspected various street-scapping projects in Azadpur, Model Town and in areas in and around Chhatrasal stadium and Delhi university.
Later talking to reporters, he said all the projects being implemented by his department will be completed before August 31.
