Metro services on the Jehangirpuri-Gurgaon line and the Noida-Dwarka line were affected on Friday afternoon.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, however, said there was a slight bunching of trains, which led to “minor delay” in operations.
Interchange stations such as Kashmere Gate, Rajiv Chowk and Yamuna Bank witnessed huge rush, as trains moved slow and stopped for longer durations in the afternoon. According to commuters, the journey between Kashmere Gate and Central Secretariat on line 2 of the network took longer than usual on Friday afternoon.
“It took me nearly 25 minutes to reach Rajiv Chowk from Kashmere Gate. The train stopped longer at each station,” said Praneet Roy, a student.
The problem shifted to line 3 after unexpected rains lashed the city. Commuters said they had to wait for 15-20 minutes for a train, though the frequency on this section during peak hours is less than five minutes.
Denying any “system failure”, senior DMRC officials said there were some minor delay on lines 2 and 3 but “overall operations” were not affected.
“Due to short-loop trains changing tracks at Green Park metro station, which is a reversal point, there was minor bunching of trains on line 2. It seems couple of track circuits developed minor problem due to rain on line 3. There was indeed no problem in train operations,” a DMRC official said.
