A key CBI witness and former aide of A Raja was on Tuesday put to hard questioning in a Delhi court during his cross examination by DMK MP Kanimozhi's lawyer Ram Jethmalani in the 2G scam trial.
Aseervartham Achary, former additional private secretary of Raja, was not only accused by Jethmalani of deposing falsely but was also asked as to how he got an expensive mobile handset.
"I do not know the approximate price of a handset of that brand (CLR). I do not know if the price of this brand is between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 4.5 lack," Achary said when Jethmalani asked him about the price of his mobile handset.
He said he did not knew the exact price of the handset as it was sent to him by one of his relatives, who resides in London, and denied that he had evaded any custom duty on it.
Jethmalani suggested to Achary that he was falsely deposing before the court that the former telecom minister had told him that then telecom secretary D S Mathur was not listening to him.
Achary answered this query saying, "...I could take the liberty with the minister (Raja) to ask such question because of my long association with him."
